Diogo Jota – RIP

Jamie, Mike and everybody involved with the 23 Foundation are devastated to hear the sad news that Diogo Jota and his brother Andre were involved in a vehicle accident this morning and have both tragically passed away.

Diogo was an amazing footballer and a wonderful kind and humble person who will be hugely missed on and off the football pitch.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Diogo’s wife, children, family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time. Our thoughts and sympathies are also with Andre’s friends and family too.

In our hearts the Number 20 shirt will always be yours Diogo and you’ll be missed by all of us.

Rest In Peace

The Community Foundation for Merseyside in partnership with Liverpool City Council, and Liverpool Charity & Voluntary Services (LCVS) has activated an urgent fundraising Appeal for all those directly affected by the incident which took place following the Liverpool FC parade on May 26th 2025. #YNWA

The Community Foundation for Merseyside in partnership with Liverpool City Council, and Liverpool Charity & Voluntary Services (LCVS) has established the Liverpool Spirit Appeal.

Distribution will be guided by a range of partners including the National Emergencies Trust, Fundraising Regulator and The Charity Commission.

The money donated to this Appeal in the first instance will prioritise those individuals identified by emergency response services as:

• Individuals experiencing physical and/or any subsequent psychological injury who were directly impacted by the events on 26th May 2025, requiring hospital/medical treatment.

We will be working alongside Merseyside Police Family Laison Officers and other emergency response services to ensure we have correct details of the individuals who were directly affected.

Secondly the fund will offer help to community organisations working in the Liverpool area which can be provided for a range of charitable purposes. The following are examples of the sorts of activities the Appeal may fund:

• Community organisations offering support such as emotional wellbeing and mental health.

• Community response coordination.

• Initiatives that bring our communities together and build resilience

The Appeal will be accounting for costs incurred in the distribution of the fund.

Please note: We are prioritising the distribution of funds to individuals who have been admitted to hospital and received medical attention. We are working closely with Merseyside Police to identify these individuals, and all allocations will be guided by the information they hold. For this reason, we are unable to respond directly to queries about individual circumstances. Thank you for your understanding.

We are also actively working with partners to identify ways to support the wider wellbeing and mental health recovery of those affected. We know that many people have been impacted in different ways, and we are committed to supporting recovery over the longer term.

Liverpool FC’s 2024 was a transformative year, marked by significant managerial changes, strategic player acquisitions, and notable performances across various competitions.

Managerial Transition: In January 2024, Jürgen Klopp announced his decision to step down as Liverpool’s manager at the end of the season, concluding a successful tenure that included multiple trophies. Arne Slot was appointed as his successor, bringing a fresh tactical approach to the team that has been surprisingly positive during this transition period.

Squad Developments: The club focused on strengthening its midfield, signing players such as Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endō, and Ryan Gravenberch. These additions aimed to enhance both defensive stability and creative play.

Domestic Competitions: Liverpool secured the EFL Cup in February 2024, defeating Chelsea 1-0 in extra time, with Virgil van Dijk scoring the decisive goal. In the Premier League, the team finished third, ensuring qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Their FA Cup journey ended in the quarter-finals, following a defeat to Manchester United.

European Campaign: Competing in the UEFA Europa League, Liverpool reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated by Atalanta, who went on to win the tournament.

Player Highlights: Mohamed Salah had an outstanding season, becoming the club’s top scorer with 25 goals across all competitions. However, in early 2025, Salah announced that he may leave Liverpool at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract if it isn’t sorted. Additionally, Trent Alexander-Arnold attracted interest from Real Madrid, with reports of a £20 million offer for the right-back.
