The 23 Foundation were pleased that the Hillsborough inquest has ruled that the 96 victims were unlawfully killed after a catalogue of failings by the police, which were also contributed to by the ambulance service.
This verdict comes after 27 years of tireless campaigning by friends and families of the victims. The jury of 6 women and 3 men answered 14 key questions, including one concerning the behaviour of the Liverpool fans that day.
The police claims that Liverpool fans drunken misbehaviour contributed to the tragedy were rejected, with the jury unanimously ruling that the Liverpool fans in no way contributed to the dangerous situation at Hillsborough.
Throughout the 27 years campaigning the families and friends of the 96 have retained their dignity whilst fighting the lies and ‘cover up’ stories made by those people that are supposed to be there to protect us.
We are delighted the truth has surfaced and the whole world now knows who was to blame on that dreadful day in 1989.
We send our love to the families of ‘our’ 96 and hope this verdict offers a little comfort to them.
